Gerbil Running Balls |
|
If you want to give your gerbil a place to run around “freely” on the floor of your home, without the dangers and recapture issues of actually letting your gerbil run around on the floor, then gerbil running balls are your ideal option. Gerbil running balls are just that, a hollow plastic, see-through ball with air holes or vents. You place your gerbil inside the ball, and shut the door securely. Then, place the ball on the floor and your gerbil will be able to run in the same way s/he would in a wheel, except s’he will actually be getting somewhere! At first, while your gerbil is getting used to the idea, there may be a lot of crashes into walls and furniture. This will not hurt your gerbil, since it is the ball, not the gerbil actually making contact with the crash surface. Your gerbil may be a bit startled at first, but soon s/he will learn how to maneuver around in the ball with relation to the obstacles that may get in the way. It is very important that you make sure that the area where your gerbil can run is safe. This means blocking off any stairways and removing pets such as dogs and cats that may decide to attack the ball, or even just simply give it a good whack. Gerbil running balls work much better on flooring than on carpets, but a determined, or experienced gerbil will be able to move about on almost any floor surface. Of course, you don’t need to limit your gerbil to a regular round ball. You can always get creative with tons of other gerbil running ball options such as cars and motorcycles!
