The Gerbil’s Nest

Weekly/Bimonthly Gerbil Ownership Responsibilities

Depending on the size of your gerbil cage, the number of gerbils you’re keeping, the humidity,  the litter you’re using, and any number of other factors, you will need to give your gerbil’s home a regular cleaning.

Many gerbil owners feel that cleaning their homes every two weeks is good enough.  There are, however, those who clean the cages weekly, or every three weeks.

Several litter and bedding types require that you clean the tank more frequently.

The best way to judge when it’s the right time to clean your gerbil’s cage is simply to give it a good sniff.  If your nose tells you it’s time to clean the cage, then it’s time to clean the cage!

Mushroom always has a lot of wooden and cardboard items in her cage, to fulfill her regular need to gnaw.
